On 24 June, 2017 we danced, laughed and cried, but most importantly MRI celebrated Refugee Week and the visibility of LGBTI refugees. Often on occasions such as Refugee Week there is a lack of representation and visibility of LGBTI refugees. Seeking to address this issue, activist, and poet PJ Samuels and friends came together to host this event. We enjoyed a Ugandan Sister dance, moving and powerful spoken word by PJ Samuels and by playwright and poet Tamara McFarlane.
Funds raised will go to towards the continuation of MRI’s peer support groups that tackle the isolation of LGBTI asylum seekers and refugees.
A big thank you to MRI’s sponsors who made the event possible, Wilson Solicitors LLP and The Showroom, and to MRI’s supporter Ana Gonzalez who prepared and donated the food.
